Social-emotional learning develops skills that help us be successful in all parts of our lives—communicating effectively, setting goals, staying motivated, and making decisions that benefit ourselves and others. With these skills, we can build healthy relationships, succeed in all aspects of our lives, and contribute to our communities.
An assessment of a school’s social-emotional wellness includes a review of current practices, protocols and gaps in execution. It verifies best practices that are in place, identifies areas in need of improvement, and provides comparative data and actionable recommendations.
Prior to the consultant's visit to campus, we gather a wide array of relevant documents and conduct surveys of various constituent groups. During the two-day visit, the consultant interviews the head of school, administrators, the counseling team, department chairs, and focus groups of faculty, students, and families. And while on campus, we use the CASEL tool for a school-wide assessment.
The consultant's report covers these topics and more:
Overview of current SEL programming
Explanation of best practices in SEL
Personnel recommendations to optimize program success
Advice on training for sustainable professional development
Identifying data collection methods for benchmarking and growth measurement
Recommendations for short- and long-term planning and implementation
