Allen Academy, the only ISAS-accredited independent school in the Central Texas region around Texas A&M University, is seeking a dynamic educator to join the Leadership Team as Middle/Upper School Director beginning in July 2023. Allen Academy serves 340 students ranging in age from three-years-old to Grade 12. As the only private school in the region to offer the AP Capstone Diploma Program, Allen focuses on excellence in academics and encourages students to develop personally in athletics, the fine and performing arts, and in leadership and character. The Middle/Upper School Director reports directly to the Head of School and serves on the senior Leadership Team. The Director is responsible for all divisional academic programs, including supervision and mentoring of a faculty of 18; fosters a healthy student culture; oversees key co-curricular programs, including college counseling, student life, the arts, and clubs; interacts regularly with parents; and works closely with other members of the Leadership Team on strategic issues that affect the entire school.
Middle/Upper School Division
The Middle/Upper School division is Grades 6 through 12. Middle School is 6-8 and Upper School is 9-12. Current enrollment is just under 155 students, served by 18 faculty members across all departments: Math, Science, History, English, Spanish, and Fine & Performing Arts. The Middle School features a highly participatory and project-based culture. Nearly all students participate in athletics, and many develop new skills in music, the performing arts, and student clubs. These co-curricular activities continue in Upper School, but with more specialization and a focus on college preparedness. Next year, 12 AP courses will be offered across all disciplines.

Allen Academy is the oldest private school in the state of Texas, having been founded in 1886. For much of its existence, Allen operated as a military boarding school for boys. Since the 1980s, it has been a co-educational, college preparatory school. Presently, Allen Academy occupies a unique position in the educational landscape of the Brazos Valley. Multiple local publications have named it the best private school in the region for more than a decade. Enrollment has been growing steadily for the last three years. Retention has improved markedly. The campus is 42 acres and includes an attractive main academic building, excellent athletic facilities, and a science/art wing which is undergoing renovation this summer. Key strengths include a talented student body, eager to learn; a committed faculty, excited to collaborate and grow professionally; a tight-knit community, including highly engaged parents; a leadership team and Board of Trustees aligned around long-term goals for improving the school; and a dynamic location, given proximity to one of the largest research universities in the country and a vibrant local economy with a growing population.
