Donelson Christian Academy is a Pre-K through 12 regionally accredited, coeducational, college-preparatory, Christian day school enrolling 850 students. Founded in 1971, the 25-acre campus is in a residential section of Donelson, TN, a suburb twenty minutes from downtown Nashville, TN. The Academy seeks to serve Christ by assisting parents in providing students with a challenging, college preparatory education taught from a non-denominational biblical worldview that develops the whole person into a Christ-like leader in the home, church, and community.
 
The Academy is looking for a dedicated, passionate Mathematics Department Chair to join our exceptional team of educators to lead the math department and teach high school math classes. While collaborating with other department chairs and divisional principals, the math department chair will promote and coordinate the efficient working of the department following the school mission and values. The candidate will model excellent teaching and learning by delivering lessons that develop students' theoretical and applied mathematical skills, develop strong partnerships with parents, mentor students from a Biblical worldview, and model Christ-like character to high school students in a collegial environment.
 
Department Chair Responsibilities
  • Serve as a mentor and instructional leader to math department members
  • Serve as a leader in curriculum and pedagogy in the department
  • Serve as a member of the Department Council, advocating for the math department while supporting the broader mission of the school
  • Maintain active relationships with local, regional, and national associations of teachers in the math subject area
  • Facilitate department meetings that promote participation from all department members
  • Lead professional growth and development, modeling excellent teaching and learning for department members
Teacher Responsibilities
  • Plan and teach lessons to facilitate student understanding and the application of mathematical concepts
  • Preparing and distributing learning materials, such as notes, assignments, and quizzes
  • Sourcing the resources and supplies needed for daily lessons
  • Grading homework assignments, quizzes, and tests promptly
  • Communicating with parents when students are not reaching their potential
  • Supervising assessments and end-of-semester examinations
  • Documenting and reporting student progress
  • Supporting students during tutoring sessions and practicing the ministry of presence at fine arts and athletic events
Department Chair and Teacher Requirements
  • Advanced degree in education with a specialization in mathematics or the equivalent
  • Belief, support, and acceptance of Donelson Christian Academy’s Statement of Belief
  • Proven math teaching experience preferred
  • Proficient in using technology to support math education
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Organized, flexible disposition with an ability to engage, connect, and inspire students
  • Integrate a Biblical worldview into instruction where possible and desire to be a Christian role model, attend weekly chapels, and lead advisory group meetings
