Garrison Forest School is seeking an experienced, creative, and dynamic individual for a full-time faculty position in our Upper School as the Director of the Upper School Academic Resource Center commencing August 2023. The Director of the US ARC is a part of the Upper School Administrative Team, working closely with the Head of Upper School, Dean of Students, and Upper School Counselor, as well as teachers, students, and parents. A desire to contribute to the leadership and scholarship of young women and an ability to build positive, constructive relationships with students are important qualities for this position. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the Upper School Academic Resource Center, including the work of Upper School Learning Specialist(s)
- Work closely with students both individually and in small groups to offer additional academic support and enrichment
- Work alongside faculty members to help plan and implement a variety of strategies in the classroom in order to support and challenge all students appropriately
- Support the Head of the Upper School with teacher development and instructional strategies
- Oversee the program of standardized testing for Upper School students; interpret and analyze scores and data from that testing
- Read and analyze educational or psychoeducational testing results and identify appropriate accommodations and supports
- Work closely with students and families to discuss student progress
- Oversee Academic Note system and Academic Watch program
- Oversee Medical Leave process and support
- Maintain and update confidential files and records pertaining to students' academic progress
- Serve on the Upper School Admission Committee
- Maintain an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues
Qualifications
- B.A. degree or equivalent – Master’s degree desirable
- Prior experience working with children in a school and demonstrated expertise in differentiating instruction
