Reporting to the Head of School, the Middle School Dean of Academics supervises/manages 5th-8th grade Faculty, School Office Manager, Pathways Program, and Academic mornings of Summer Camp.
Areas of Responsibility
Curriculum Documentation - Document the curriculum and its alignment to standards in conjunction with teachers.
Curriculum Purchases and Trainings
Approve purchase, communicate about new curriculum programs or instructional tools, including online instructional tools.
Oversee curriculum orders to ensure a match between materials chosen and curricular goals.
Curriculum Overall Effectiveness
Evaluate the school wide curriculum both holistically and at individual grade levels, based on assessment data, instructional observations, and constituent feedback. Consider:
the ability of the curriculum to be differentiated, both when working directly with students and when students are working independently at school or at home
the ability for curriculum to be covered with integrity (depth over breadth)
the clarity of content standards underpinning the curriculum as well as the vertical climb of standards and content
the quality of resources being used to implement curriculum
the relevance of curriculum
the integration of technology or potential for integration of technology
Review Cycles by subject matter: Social Studies/History (year 1), Science (year 2), Math (year 3), Language Arts (year 4), and Bible (year 5).
Assessment
Manage the classroom grading and feedback systems used in measuring and communicating student achievement, including report cards, conferences, and progress reports
Manage ERB-CTP4 (Grades 1-8) standardized testing including logistics, preparation, communication and processing of test results to ensure that standardized assessments are being utilized to inform curriculum and instruction choices at the school, classroom and student level.
Works collaboratively to use student assessment data for making decisions for continuous improvement of teaching and learning processes.
Communicate the results of student performance and school effectiveness with teachers
Works collaboratively with Director of Admissions to use applicant assessment data for making admissions decisions.
Evaluation
Conduct classroom and summative evaluations according to determined evaluation schedule and based on Standards of Professional Practice
Meet annually with teachers to build, review, and assess personalized professional growth plans
Create, review, revise, and implement parent perception surveys
Make recommendations regarding the hiring, retention, and instructional assignments of faculty
Human Resources
Review candidate resumes and applications for candidates that progress to 2nd round
Conduct second round interviews in conjunction with Head of School and determined hiring team members
Organize and facilitate second round interviews and teaching demonstrations for applicable candidates
Meet with Head of School and applicable staff to make final recommendations for hiring
Summer Programming
Oversee hiring, curriculum/programming, and schedule for morning academic program
Professional Development
Assist in developing Standards of Professional Practice for teaching in an under- resourced school
Work in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Academics to create a calendar of professional development that encompasses our mission and school improvement plan
Faculty Planning and Communication
Create Class Lists in conjunction with Class Placement Team and handle all class list communications
Create Yearly School Wide Schedule for special area classes
School Calendar (Final creation – drafted in conjunction with Administrative Team input)
Maintain weekly Faculty e-newsletter communication that keeps faculty apprised of all school programs, events, etc.
SAIS Accreditation
Maintain a folder on each faculty member that includes college transcripts, teacher education classes, seminars, etc.
Ensure that SAIS guidelines are followed regarding faculty teaching qualifications
Act as primary SAIS contact
Write the annual SAIS report each spring
School Office Manager
Ensure School Office Manager complies with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies
Assist School Office Manager oversight Substitute Teachers
Assist with School Office Manager Google Classroom communications
Academic Events
Oversee Back-to-School Nights
Oversee Move-Up Days
Oversee Faculty Meetings
Assist with Spelling Bees
The Learning Center (TLC)
Monitor the TLC student qualification processes
Monitor ongoing TLC caseload management
Monitor TLC-based communications between all constituencies
Oversee collaborative scheduling
Oversee the NC Licensure Program
Keep records of CEUS for licensed teachers
Fill out renewal packets for licensed teachers
Update licenses when necessary
Qualifications
Committed follower of Jesus Christ, reflecting a desire to serve Him and others I work and life.
Eager to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship.
Master’s degree required. Teaching experience preferred.
An understanding of teaching with biblical worldview and integration.

Passion for learning, strong classroom management skills, and a willingness to work collaboratively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff.
Ability to represent the school well to others and our community.

Computer skills as applicable for effective teaching.
Able to lift/move up to forty pounds when needed.
Teaching license beneficial.
