The Assistant Head for Student Affairs reports directly to the Interim Head of School. Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Head for Student Affairs is responsible for providing and administering a comprehensive system of student services to support students as they enter and progress through the school’s academic programs. 
 
Saint Mary’s School is an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades 9–12. The School is the fourth oldest girls’ boarding and day school in the country. The School is located on a beautiful 23-acre campus which is within walking distance to many restaurants and attractions of downtown Raleigh. Duties
  • Serves as a member of the senior leadership team; represents the school internally and externally by serving on various boards, committees, etc.
  • In partnership with subordinate managers, develops and maintains a system of services for students, including counseling, admission, orientation, residential life, special populations assistance, graduation events and student activities.
  • Works collaboratively with Academic Affairs team and other departments to ensure students are provided course schedules which allow on-time graduation.
  • Works collaboratively with Administrative Services and other to ensure proper administration of student financial services and financial aid programs.
  • Coordinates departmental activities with other federal, state, and local agencies that provide student services.
  • Assists with the compilation of quarterly and annual enrollment reports.
  • Manages the development of Student Services publications.
  • Plans and implements graduation exercises.
  • Participates in strategic planning and execution of the plan.
  • Assists with the design and execution of special events, projects and activities as requested.
  • Manages and oversees financial/budget operation of the Student Affairs division.
  • Conducts regular evaluation of services provided and adjusts as needed.
  • Develops and/or assists with the development of policies and procedures and recommends changes to effectively meet the goals and requirements of the school, while ensuring compliance with state or federal laws that may impact department initiatives.
  • Monitors the activities of personnel to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures of the school.
  • Supervises subordinate staff, evaluates employees at scheduled intervals and ensures all division employees are evaluated by the appropriate manager as scheduled.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education, business, public administration, or another appropriate field. 
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a position of educational leadership.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in a boarding school, with international and domestic boarding and day students.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working directly with a system of services for students, including athletics, counseling, admission, residential life, special populations assistance, or student activities.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in or closely with admissions teams or the recruitment of high school aged students.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in or closely with academic affairs teams, student discipline, and/or the financial aid process.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience leading a high performing team of colleagues.
  • A positive, collaborative, and inclusive psychological approach to working with all constituent groups. 
Preferred Qualifications 
  • Terminal Degree from an accredited college or university in education, business, public administration, or another appropriate field. 
  • Five or ,more years of experience: 
in a position of educational leadership.
working in a boarding school, with international and domestic boarding and day students.
working directly with a system of services for students, including athletics, counseling, admission, residential life, special populations assistance, or student activities.
working in or closely with admissions teams or the recruitment of high school aged students.
working in or closely with academic affairs teams, student discipline, and/or the financial aid process.
leading a high performing team of colleagues.
