Founded in 1879 by the Episcopal Church, Saint Mary’s Hall is an independent co-ed day school serving students and families of all faiths. Since its founding, Saint Mary’s Hall has called four campuses home. Saint Mary’s Hall seeks an outstanding Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life who will work closely with students, faculty, parents, and other administrators to support students in the Middle School. The Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life will work closely with the Head of Middle School and Middle School counselors to foster an inclusive, engaging, caring atmosphere and a healthy Middle School community by providing programming and leadership opportunities that enable students to flourish. This role will oversee student behavior and discipline as well as the daily operations and activities of Middle School including coordinating extra/co-curricular activities and the Advisory Program. The Assistant Head of Middle School for Student Life will work in consultation with the Head of Middle School and will be an integral member of the Middle School Leadership team.  
  • Work collaboratively with the Middle School team to create a student-centered, dynamic school culture of belonging  
  • Oversee the day-to-day discipline and cultural issues in the Middle School 
  • Keep accurate records regarding disciplinary infractions and consequences for students in Forms 6-8
  • Support faculty by providing classroom management guidance
  • Maintain visibility, including greeting students at drop off, supervising lunch, recess and locker rooms, throughout Middle School to ensure belonging and safety for all students
  • Plan and coordinate the extra/co-curricular activities, organize WIN time, and the Advisor Program in consultation with the Head of Middle School
  • Assist the Head of Middle School on schedules, calendar, special events and handbook revisions
  • Work with members of the Middle School Counseling Team to promote student safety and success
  • Assist Enrollment Management Office with student shadow visits and retention efforts
  • Serve on the Middle School Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Heads of School in the Lower and Upper Divisions
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, staff, and administration
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • B.A. in education related field required, advanced degree(s) preferred
  • A minimum of five years of teaching at the middle school level
  • A minimum of three years with administrative experience preferred
  • Demonstrated work in the discipline of Middle School aged students 
  • Demonstrated work in the design or management of extra/co-curricular activities
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with parents, colleagues, staff, and administration
  • Student-centered, collaborative, and transparent educator who is accessible to students, parents, and colleagues and is adept at building relationships
  • Academic leader with extraordinarily high expectations of self her/himself and the ability to inspire and motivate others
