St. Andrew’s Episcopal School is seeking a qualified Director of Experiential Education.  The school’s Southwest Parkway campus is on 166 acres that extends our learning environment to the outdoors. The Director of Experiential Education will help the entire K-12 community explore and care for our outdoor space, called the Park, by providing support for faculty and staff in designing hands-on activities for our students, guiding sustainability efforts, and cultivating opportunities for students to step outside their comfort zone. The Director of Experiential Education will also play a critical role in developing and implementing a rebranding and reimagining of a high-quality educational signature program that provides upper school students with meaningful and transformative enrichment opportunities locally and globally. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate outdoor educational professional to lead and grow a dynamic, impactful, multifaceted program. This position is on a twelve-month contract and a member of the K-12 administrative leadership team.
 
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred, preferably in a field related to ecology, environmental studies, or the like. 
  • Experience leading outdoor programming in fields such as sustainability, gardening, land management, or the like. 
  • Experience working in schools or a non-profit organization. 
  • Strong knowledge of outdoor education principles, including experiential learning, risk management, and environmental stewardship. 
  • Experience with student field experiences, including those involving travel. 
Job Goals
  • Academic Programing: 1) to collaborate with classroom teachers to create, develop, and implement any K-12 relevant and field-based curricula and teaching and learning objective 2) to create and implement sustainable programs such as a Class Land Program where each incoming Kindergarten class is assigned a parcel of land to study and steward for their 13 years 3) to work with the Upper School administrative team on rebranding one of our signature programs, the Junior Experience, based on providing students the opportunities to step outside their comfort zone and learn beyond the classroom. 
  • Outdoor Education: 1) to collaborate with classroom teachers to support community engagement with the land through planned events 2) to collaborate with the 31st Street Trip Coordinator and SWP Administration to provide meaning travel experiences and field trips for students 3) to creatively think of ways for students to engage with the outdoors though hiking club, conservation corps, or the like. 
  • Operational Programming: 1) to work with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the school’s landscaping partners to help make decisions about land stewardship and use 2) to help create and maintain trail systems, outdoor classroom spaces, and other identified uses of the land 3) to support sustainability efforts 4) to engage the community in the use of the land.
