The University Christian Upper School Principal is an administrative staff position, reporting to the Head of School. The primary responsibility includes oversight of the High School program according to the philosophy and policies of UCS. Additionally, working collaboratively with the Head of School and Dean of Students and Technology in the student life, spiritual direction and growth of students is necessary. Participation in a variety of school-wide activities will require attendance after hours.
General Requirements, Competencies and Experience
- Demonstrates a deep love for students.
- Has acknowledged Jesus Christ as his/her Savior and Lord; and demonstrates this through regular church attendance, discipleship, prayer, and Bible study.
- Shall be a person of spiritual maturity with academic and leadership abilities that will allow him/her to inspire and lead the faculty, parents and children at UCS.
- Is accountable as a member to University Church.
- Understands confidentiality and professionalism.
- Subscribes, without hesitation, to the UCS Statement of faith, mission statement and core values.
- Has ability to communicate effectively with peers, students and their parents.
- Is punctual for all daily duties, staff devotions, meetings, conferences, etc.
- Possesses organizational abilities and is proficient in technology.
- Has the ability to work flexible hours.
- Has the experience to counsel and mentor Upper School students.
Educational Training
- Holds a master’s degree in Education with a successful teaching and administrative history
- Holds or can attain an ACSI Administrator’s Certification
Experience: Possess a minimum of five years teaching and/or administrative experience.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the High School program in all areas including, but not limited to
Hiring/Staffing
Classroom visits and evaluations
Planning and implementation of faculty and staff training and development
Assistance with technology development, training and selection
Coordinates master schedule in cooperation with the Guidance Office
New student admissions and interviews
Discipline matters in coordination with the US Dean
Emergency procedures and practices
Chapels and Spiritual Emphasis planning and development
- Mentor and provide leadership to the school teaching staff of UCS.
- Oversee and expand the program that includes spiritual, academic, social, emotional and physical development of the students.
- Facilitate, develop and expand an on-going curriculum and instructional program.
- Provide leadership to the middle and high school program that aligns with student learning outcomes.
- Lead the spiritual development of the faculty and student body of UCS Upper School.
- Provide a nurturing and family environment for students and parents in order to deliver our mission and grow the middle and high school program.
Specific Duties
- Organizes, manages, evaluates and supervises procedures for the operation and function of the school in a manner consistent with the philosophy, mission and core values.
- Supervises the instructional program, evaluating lesson plans and observing classes on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures best practices are being utilized for program instruction.
- Facilitating the use of appropriate processes and tools to assess program effectiveness and the use of the resulting data for program improvement.
- Communicates and collaborates with the Head of School regularly in
designing and implementing program initiatives

adequately meeting budgetary and resource needs for the Upper School
successful day to day operation of the Upper School
effective interviewing and hiring of prospective teaching candidates
- Managing and overseeing the effectiveness of student advisement, counseling, and guidance services.
- Conducts meetings as necessary with faculty and staff and department chairs for the proper functioning of the school and the academic program.
- Provides opportunities for effective staff development, addressing the needs of the instructional program and school.
- Supports and works closely with the Parent Groups and builds healthy parental involvement.
- Ensures special student life activities with appropriate staff and directors.
- Provides leadership over all extra-curricular functions.
- Provides leadership and support for the Athletic Director and the 6-12 athletic program.
- Seeks to promote positive public relations by involving constituents, listening to parents and communicating effectively with them about the successes of the school and their children.
