St. Andrew's Episcopal School seeks a Director of College Counseling for the 2023-2024 school year to lead the college counseling program and work with students, parents, and faculty in providing a comprehensive college planning experience for every individual.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Craft a comprehensive college counseling program including individual meetings, group presentations, and implementation of new initiatives and events.
- Manage a caseload of approximately 35-40 students, providing strategies, advice, and guidance to students and their families throughout the application process and in making the best individualized choice for college.
- Meet with students and conduct workshops to educate and empower them on how to navigate the college process, admissions trends, and individual college options.
- Create and submit materials to colleges in support of applicants through Scoir and manage information in Scoir for students in grades 9-12.
- Write letters of recommendation for students applying to college.
- Coordinate the faculty writing of requested recommendations for students applying to college.
- Assist students in identifying resources for scholarships and financial aid for college.
- Conduct events and educational outreach for students in grades 8-12 and their parents.
- Plan and chaperone the annual spring break college tour.
- Facilitate visits between students and college representatives at the school.
- Develop and manage the college counseling budget.
- Ensure that the registrar has accurate permanent records of students’ testing and academic work.
- Collaborate with the admission and marketing departments to convey information of interest to prospective parents.
- Develop the school’s annual profile for colleges in conjunction with the marketing department.
- Cultivate mutually beneficial working relationships with college admissions professionals and local area college counseling colleagues.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the upper school to support students.
- Serve as an advisor to a group of upper school students.
- Serve on the upper school leadership team, upper school student support services team, and other committees as assigned.
- Attend and contribute in full, divisional, departmental, and team faculty meetings.
- Stay current on trends in independent schools and college counseling by taking an active role in professional activities and attending relevant professional meetings and conferences, including NACAC, SACAC, and ACCIS.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As with any independent school, faculty should be ready to chaperone class trips, perform typical day-to-day duties such as lunch duty and study hall proctor, and engage fully in all school events that develop the student.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least five years of experience in college counseling or college admissions.
- Successful track record working with students from first contact to college admission.
- Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents/guardians, and guests.
- Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex tasks and projects efficiently and effectively without constant supervision.
- High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated success in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite required.
