Sandy Spring Friends School seeks a full-time Director of Institutional Equity, Justice, and Belonging (IEJB).  Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of IEJB is a member of the senior administrative team and will lead the design, implementation, and oversight of the School’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies and programs to support belongingness for all members of the SSFS community.  The Director of IEJB serves as the school wide resource for topics or concerns related to diversity, equity, justice, inclusion, and cross-cultural competency. 
 
Responsibilities - In conjunction with the Head of School, Director of IEJB
  • leads the school’s strategic, operational, and programmatic initiatives related to diversity, equity, justice, and belonging
  • leads the Office of Institutional Equity, Justice, Belonging which is staffed with divisional and constituent coordinators
  • partners with division heads, department heads, and teachers to develop and support an inclusive curriculum that highlights the content, concepts, and skills that students need related to diversity, justice, and cross-cultural competency, founded in a knowledge of child development and identity development for students in PS - 12th grade
  • leads and coordinates professional development for all faculty and staff regarding key skills and competencies related to equity, justice, and belonging
  • works with the Administrative Council to ensure the school’s policies, practices, and procedures align with our efforts to be inclusive, anti-biased, and non-discriminatory
  • supports the Assistant Director of IEJB in connecting with alumni/students from various backgrounds and supports their connection and engagement in the school’s diversity efforts 
  • partners with the Parent Association, especially Intersect, to design and implement parent education and support programs
  • works with leadership team to implement strategies that align with the schools diversity efforts, provide training and improve effectiveness in recruiting/retaining a diverse student body and faculty/staff
  • tracks our Diversity Audit progress, establishes strategic objectives and implements communication systems that will assess progress and effectiveness based on the recommendations and action items from the recent diversity audit as well as identify the need and format of potential future audits
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and work experience in relevant fields
  • Demonstrated success in diversity leadership working collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, families, trustees
  • Experience leading teams and facilitating workshops on diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural competency
  • 4 years of experience leading institutional efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • 2 years of teaching or other education-related experience
