Position Overview:  The primary responsibility of full-time faculty is to provide instruction in the classroom in accordance with the Lower School Vision for Learning. Early Learning teachers should passionately support children’s play, exploration, inquiry, and creative/critical thinking.  Additional duties require that full-time faculty participate in the before/after school program and possibly the residential program.   All faculty are expected to understand and support the standards and policies of the School. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide quality classroom instruction for assigned classes under the guidance of the Lower School Head. 
  • Develop, plan, and implement curriculum based on children’s interests for Early Learning and Kindergarten teams.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to analyze and interpret documentation and envision the next steps for small group exploration.
  • Support the social and emotional development of children through the use of conflict resolution, reflective listening, and inquiry.
  • Utilize the environment as the third teacher by creating a beautiful, intentional, and stimulating classroom and outdoor learning environment.
  • Communicate with students and their families regarding ongoing performance and make learning visible through daily and weekly documentation, building trust and ensuring student growth and learning. 
  • Develop policy and procedures in coordination with the division head. 
  • Communicate with the Director of Lower School Counseling and any additional outside providers regarding students who are struggling to meet the demands of the school curriculum and coordinate efforts to remediate accordingly. 
  • Attend Admission events, give tours, and support the recruitment of incoming families.
  • Conduct Admissions assessments, interview families, and complete the admission process for Early Learning and Kindergarten candidates.
  • Observe and give feedback for Early Learning and Kindergarten teaching faculty. 
  • Lead assigned activities that comprise the school’s before or after school program. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree (Early Childhood, Child Development, or Elementary Education preferred); master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Understanding and experience with the Reggio Emilia approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subjects taught, backed by a love of learning evident in daily practice.
  • At least five years of experience in the classroom or equivalent experience teaching.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of child development ages and stages relevant to Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
  • Possess an understanding of literacy development, benchmarking, phonics, and early number sense instruction.
  • Ability to manage a variety of programs and activities simultaneously and support a spirit of teamwork among individuals pursuing common goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing, necessary for active participation in an educational community.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an unflappable “solutions-oriented” professionalism.
  • Ability to project an image of professional competence and credibility in representing Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.
  • A strong commitment to the principles of teamwork and shared responsibility for success.
  • Highly organized and able to manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including: BlackBaud, Seesaw, Gmail, and Google environment. 
  • A valid driver’s license
