PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with the Dean of Faculty, Fine Arts Department Chair, and Fine Arts Department colleagues, the Director of Performing Arts will create and support a vision for the performing arts at Louisville Collegiate School. The Director will instruct four or five performing arts courses as well as oversee and promote five major productions across the Middle and Upper School divisions.  The Director reports to the Dean of Faculty.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
  • A bachelor’s degree in performing arts or related field is required; advanced degree preferred
  • Three or more years of experience teaching performing arts in multiple forms (drama, musical theatre, dance, vocals, costume design, etc.)
  • Experience organizing and facilitating performances from offering auditions to striking the sets; experience in this regard within a school preferred
  • Experience and facility in production, set design, and personnel management
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of middle and upper school students
  • Collaborative spirit in developing performances, working with volunteers, and delegating tasks
  • Practice managing contracts and budgets
  • Positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
  • Understanding of independent schools preferred.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED
  • Work with Administration to incorporate the Fine Arts season with the school calendar and collaboratively manage changes and edits to the school calendar as circumstances demand.
  • Work with the Dean of Faculty to create and support a vision for the Arts at Collegiate.
  • Support Division Heads and Administration with larger scope projects
  • Work with Advancement, Marketing, and Department Chairs to shape communication regarding opportunities and performances
  • Work with Advancement, Marketing and Housekeeping to coordinate the logistics and resources needed for specific performance events or showcases.
  • Serve as a member of the Fine Arts Department, attending departmental meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
  • Oversee the maintenance and replacement of sound equipment, stage equipment, pianos (acoustic and electric), and lighting equipment.
  • Work with College Counseling to advise young artists in the college process for theatre/musical theatre, visual art, and instrumental music
  • Oversee clubs and co-curriculars tied to performing arts
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
