Cross Schools seeks an experienced academic, spiritual, and cultural leader to succeed Mr. Joseph Almeida who has been appointed to be the Head of School effective June 1, 2023.
A Parochial School—but not like many
Cross Schools is a vital, integrated ministry of The Church of the Cross, a leading congregation in the Anglican reform movement https://thechurchofthecross.net/ . The next Lower School Principal will be expected to agree unreservedly with the Cross Schools Statement of Faith, including biblical definitions of marriage and sexuality https://www.crossschools.org/Spiritual-Life/statement-faith. Cross Schools is governed by a Board of Trustees under the generous authority of The Church of the Cross’s Vestry and Rector. Unlike many parochial school and church relationships, the Board of Trustees exercises a wide range of authority, much like an independent school board, including the appointment and evaluation of the Head of School, who is its only employee. Other than a handful of Faith Formation instructors, no Cross Schools administrators, teachers, or staff are employees of the The Church of the Cross.
Strategy
Cross Schools has nearly doubled in enrollment in the past five years. Cross serves 677 students from 12-months to 12th grade (the first graduating class are presently Juniors). For many families, Cross presents an opportunity to have their children educated from infancy through their matriculation to college and other post-secondary endeavors. With the growth, there have been changes. In concert with re-accreditation efforts in the 2023-24 academic year, the Lower School Principal will encounter opportunities to innovate in multiple areas: curriculum priorities and alignment, faculty training and culture, coordination with Early Ed and Middle School, and input into campus development. In short, Cross Schools’ next Lower School Principal will be expected to think strategically, work collaboratively, and execute effectively.
