Episcopal High School is seeking a Dean of Arts (Head of Arts Pillar) to manage and direct the school’s arts courses and curricular objectives, ancillary arts programs, arts faculty, parent volunteer initiatives, budget development and management for all showcases, performances, exhibitions, and student-related opportunities in these areas.
Senior Management Team: Head of the Arts Pillar; supervise faculty in areas of the arts, coordinate complementary parent volunteer programs, guide and inspire curricular initiatives in related areas, oversee management of all programs; lead professional development programs; serve on committees and expand opportunities for students and faculty.
Curricular Oversight and Program Management: oversee policy and development of all arts courses, including ancillary programs in journalism, debate, creative writing, publications, and all after-school extra-curricular arts offerings.
Manage Strategic Partnerships, Residencies, and Summer Programs: Maintain and develop partnerships with local and nationally-recognized organizations, such as the Greater Houston Partnership, Society for the Performing Arts, Young Audiences of Houston, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Houston Maker Faire, Ballet Hispanico, MFAH, and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.
Admissions Support Liaison: supervise and coordinate a wide variety of initiatives related to the school’s ongoing admissions strategy. These events include visiting school visits, Knight Celebration, Prospective Student Knight, Field Knight, Advent Chapel, weekend workshop activities, student and family interviews, sorting and ranking lists of applicants, and related parent education programs.
Trustee and Committee Liaison: establishes and maintains contacts with board members, key donors, contractors and vendors, grade-level deans, principal, associate head of school, heads of pillars, department chairs, and director of student activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, BFA, MFA
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of best practices in independent school preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to comfortably interact with a wide and diverse range of people: students, parents, board members, school representatives, employees of EHS and representatives from arts organizations and related industries. Networking skills that translate into greater opportunity for the school and its constituents preferred.
