Webb School of Knoxville seeks an experienced college counseling professional to join the College Counseling Office beginning July 1, 2023.  
 
Position Summary
  • Guided by the school’s values, our college counseling process encourages students to take ownership of the college search with support from their family and college counselors.
  • Our college counselors assist students at each stage and educate the school community on colleges, application standards, trends, work with families as they consider college costs and funding sources, and build relationships with colleges on behalf of the school.
  • The college counselor will participate in and help shape all activities required to advance a forward-thinking college counseling program that is grounded in the school's educational mission; provide individual guidance to approximately 40 students in each graduating class as well as help lead programming in grades 9-12; and maintain a dialogue with college admission officers at a wide array of colleges.
  • he successful applicant will balance competing tasks graciously and engage openly in the Webb School community. Above all, the successful candidate will listen and connect skillfully and compassionately with adolescents and their families. 
Job Responsibilities
  • Assist and cooperate with the Director of College Counseling to design and implement a program that offers individual guidance, group meetings, evening events, and virtual programming to guide students as they search for, apply to, and enroll in college.
  • Hold individual, family, and grade level meetings with students to assist them in researching colleges, completing applications, and making enrollment decisions.
  • Offer regular group meetings that cover college counseling topics including building an appropriate list of colleges, completing applications, considering college costs, essay writing, standardized testing, and other relevant matters.
  • Coordinate family programming that keeps parents appropriately informed of college counseling topics. Communicate regularly with families as appropriate throughout high school to educate and support them on the college admission process.
  • Stay informed about and connected with colleges and universities, including their application and admission processes and policies. Supervise the coordination of college admission representative visits.
  • Stay informed on standardized testing policies and procedures and help advise the school community on this topic.
  • Represent the school in the larger higher education community including attending workshops, conferences, and forums regarding college admission, and visiting college campuses. 
  • Advise school administrators and take part in curriculum conversations as they relate to college admission.
