The Director of Placement is responsible for providing direct services to students and parents in planning and determining appropriate school placement in a manner that supports the educational process and needs of students. This individual will be energetic, enthusiastic, self‐ disciplined, organized, and a reliable team player who will collaborate with the Director of Enrollment Management in advocating for the students, parents and the school. The Director of Placement will oversee all aspects of the placement process for 4th grade students, including, but not limited to conducting placement meetings, serve as resource for 4th grade parents to shape expectations and responses prepared for prospective schools. The Director of Placement will be expected to consistently interact with admission professionals from local independent schools, as well as, organizing and hosting various admissions and placement events.
Job Responsibilities
Directs and oversees all aspects of the placement process for all 4th grade students, including, but not limited to, the following:
o Conducts group and individual placement meetings with parents of 4th graders
o Serves as a resource for 4th grade parents regarding school choices and application procedures
o Partners with School Counselor to conduct Brown Bag Lunches with 4th graders to prepare them for school visits and interviews
o Interacts with admission professionals from local independent schools to assist with student placement
o Oversees maintenance of placement file for each 4th grader
o Ensures Lamplighter Teacher Recommendations and Student Credentials are delivered to other private schools by deadlines
Assists in scheduling and providing information about local independent schools to staff, students and parents
Coordinates mock interviews, workshops, and other activities to prepare 4th graders for interacting with admission professionals from local independent schools and assist their parents with determining appropriate school placement to meet the needs of individual student
Maintains documents, reports and records relating to students
Maintains daily records of all contacts with and on behalf of students
Tracks progress of placement applications of 4th graders and follows‐up with families, addresses questions, and facilitates completion of placement applications
Visits independent schools within the community to foster and maintain effective relationships
Provides lunch or break coverage for Front Desk one day per week
Performs all other related duties as assigned by the Head of School
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
5+ years school admission or placement counselor experience required
Experience with Blackbaud’s ON products preferred
Relevant experience in an independent school or nonprofit setting preferred

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
A demonstrated ability to coach, edit and prepare written communications
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to develop and document office procedures
Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to collaborate with colleagues
