KLA Academy, a private early childhood and elementary school in the heart of Miami, seeks a Business Officer with strong accounting background and experience working in a school setting, preferably in private schools. The Business Officer will report directly to the Head of School and work closely with the corporate office. She/He will be a member of the senior administration.
General Description
Responsible for performing the day-to-day tasks of the financial department in compliance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Prepares financial statements and evaluates financial documents to ensure that records of all financial transactions are accurate and in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. Conducts monthly audits of revenues and expenses. Handles payroll functions as required by the organization. Reviews financial information and documents.
Detailed Job Components
- Looks through the transactions of the organization by following GAAP principles
- Analyzes data recorded into the system to prepare financial statements
- Collaborates with team members to provide necessary financial reports
- Conducts ongoing review and provides solutions for accounting irregularities
- Manages ledgers and ensures accurate financial record keeping across departments
- Performs monthly reconciliations of all main accounts such as bank accounts, credit cards, and others as needed
- Prepares and submits bi-weekly payroll
- Processes payments
- Conducts monthly and ongoing audits of fees and tuition billed and collected
- Ensures timely collection of receivables during the month in order to maintain receivables collected within 30 days
- Reports the collection status to management
- Receives and processes invoices and billing statements and payments to vendors
- Calculates and reports sales taxes
- Prepares annual 1099s
- Prepares cost and enrollment analysis reports for other departments
- Creates cost analysis reports of fixed and variable costs
- Requests physical inventory count of uniforms to perform inventory control and reports inventory count to management
- Reviews and analyzes budget vs expenses on a monthly basis and reports findings to management
- Contributes to the culture of the corporate team and the greater KLA Schools system
- Participates in meetings, conferences and support opportunities as requested
- Adapts and complies to ongoing changes as needed
- Performs other duties as requested by KLA Schools’ President and management team
- Provides oversight and handles all financial aspects of the school’s data management system (PowerSchool)
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting and finance
- Strong knowledge of accounting software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Strong attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local financial related laws
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Ability to analyze large sets of data
- Understanding of data privacy standards
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills: meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Work collaboratively with senior administrative team and corporate office
