St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School, a college-preparatory, 3 year old-12th grade Episcopal day school, seeks a dynamic, innovative leader to assume the role of Middle School Director on July 1, 2023.
The Middle School Director serves on the school's senior administrative team and shares the responsibility for setting the strategic vision for the Middle School and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the campus and of 45 faculty members and 300 students in 6th-8th Grade. As the school is on three campuses, the Middle School Director is responsible for all aspects of the Middle School campus.
The Middle School Director works in a highly collaborative environment, particularly with the Associate Middle School Director, Middle School Dean of Students, Middle School Associate Dean, Middle School Counselor, Middle School Chaplain, grade-level deans, Director of Institutional Equity and Diversity, Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Director of Service Learning and Community Engagement, to support division-wide work on co-curricular and curricular programming, student wellness, faculty and staff hiring, and faculty growth and development.
The Middle School Director sets the tone for the division, reflecting high professional and academic standards, integrity, and a commitment to our mission to "pursue goodness as well as knowledge and to honor the unique value of each of our members as a child of God in a caring community." The successful candidate will be a proven educator and leader who finds joy in working with adolescents and possesses the vision, creativity, and organizational skills to lead a highly-skilled faculty and staff. The candidate will be a master teacher with excellent written and oral communication skills. He or she will employ best practices and possess an excellent academic background, including an advanced degree.

Recent areas of focus include
  • Enhancing the academic program with expanded offerings in Performing Arts, Computer Science, Modern and Classical Languages, a Sixth Grades Skills Class, and an Eighth grade Seminar class.
  • Developing a robust advisory program with an emphasis on intentionally teaching dialogue skills
  • Restructuring the schedule to provide longer class periods which support student-centered pedagogy as well as a slower pace of the school day which allows ample time for play and community building.
  • Growing our service learning and external engagement program, with a strong focus on enhancing our Mini-Course offerings.
The incoming Middle School Director will play a pivotal role in not only implementing these initiatives, but also developing a vision that will move the division forward for years to come.
