Director of Student Support Services
Reports Directly to: Head of School
Position Summary: The Director of Student Services manages, monitors and facilitates the work responsibilities for the Learning Place (LP), Academic Coaching Center for Excellence (ACCE) as well as Learning Specialists, Counselors, Librarian, School Nurse, and the English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor in coordination with Division Heads.
Manages, monitors, and facilitates the work responsibilities for the LP, ACCE and learning specialists in support of LP students.
Provides direction, coordination, and guidance to learning specialists and outside contracted services in support of LP students.
Manages, monitors, and facilitates the work responsibilities for the Counselors in coordination with Division Heads.
Provides direction, coordination, and guidance to the Counselors in coordination with Division Heads.
Participates in Academic and Administrative team meetings.
Attends grade level meetings and chairs Student Services meetings in support of LP students.
Consults on admissions decisions.
Works with Division Heads, parents and teachers to resolve academic challenges associated with learning differences.
Consults with teachers and other school personnel to obtain information regarding referral concerns in support of LP and ACCE students.
Works cooperatively as an interdivisional LP and ACCE members to provide services and to devise an appropriate service plan for referred students and their families.
Works with Division Heads and teachers to implement evidence-based interventions for academic and behavioral issues.
Maintain accurate student records (e.g. external reports, psycho educational testing and parent communication).
Monitor and report student progress.
Participate in professional development and maintaining a high level of professional competence.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Implement and analyze standardized formative and summative assessments.
Supervise testing assessment center.
Provide direction for American Sign Language in coordination with the Head of Upper School.
Provide direction and coordination to the Librarian and School Nurse.
College degree required.
Has extensive training and experience implementing specialized interventions in reading and mathematics.
Full understanding of differentiated instructional strategies across the curriculum Knowledge of learning disabilities, psycho-educational tests, reports, and assistive technology.
Knowledge of administering and interpreting assessments and test results, academic achievement, and diagnostic testing.
Proven success as a leader in program development.
Demonstrated theoretical foundation in the principles and practices of leadership.
Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills particularly as it relates to the delivery of complex student information in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Willingness to work and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, administration, teachers, parents, and students.
Professional development/In-service development and facilitator experience.
Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of school.
