Jackson Academy is seeking a new Head of Lower School to begin June 2023 to lead and oversee the planning and execution of the Lower School experience at JA while supervising and supporting the students, faculty, and administrative personnel in K3-4th grade. 
Reporting to the Associate Head of School and Academic Dean, the primary responsibility of the Head of Lower School is to advance the school mission. The head ensures that a nurturing and spiritual culture is felt by all students, staff, and parents. Leveraging deep and meaningful relationships, the head should inspire and equip all students and faculty in the Lower School to achieve beyond their self-imposed limitations. The Head of Lower School is a key member of the Academic Leadership Team, which includes the Heads of Upper School and Middle School, and the Director of Preschool/Associate Head of Lower School. The Lower School Head also works closely with the Head of Technology, the Director of Admissions, the Director of Learning Diversity, and the Director of After School Programs. 
Candidates should demonstrate leadership experience in independent education with a history of leadership and influence in a lower school setting, including classroom teaching experience. Candidates with advanced degrees are preferred. Key skills include strong communication skills, a positive attitude, nurturing and visionary leadership, high and consistent expectations of students and staff, team builder, and well-versed in current educational pedagogy. The candidate should understand and embrace diversity of learning styles and value a robust lower school program that embraces excellence in academics and special subject programs.
