The most daunting challenge for school heads is to assemble a superb faculty. Great teachers are the backbone of your school—they improve the lives of your students . . . and they make administrators look good, too!

School leaders turn to Southern Teachers because we know our candidates and because they trust us to serve them with integrity.

If you run an independent school in the South, you should use Southern Teachers, too.

Whence Cometh the Candidates?

The schools we serve are in the South. The candidates we serve are from . . . everywhere!

One obvious pool of candidates is new college graduates, and we conduct robust, multi-faceted college-recruiting campaigns at hundreds of colleges to identify and recruit new talent.

To connect with experienced faculty candidates, we conduct extensive online marketing and we enjoy networking at state and regional independent school conferences. In addition, we’re delighted to ship our beautiful calendar each year—with artwork submitted by students from many of our member schools—to thousands of school faculty lounges. We’re a well-established presence in the independent school world.

To find and serve teachers returning from jobs at overseas schools we continue advertising extensively, as we have for over 30 years.

Candidates come to us from around the world—to find exciting new opportunities in the South!

Candidate Referrals

Our most important and challenging task is prescreening individual candidates for specific positions at each school. We receive requests for thousands of jobs annually. We give each one our full attention. Our goal—in which we take great pride and personal satisfaction—is to refer only qualified, viable candidates who have much to offer the school community.

To accomplish this daunting task, we interview every single candidate and check their references. In addition, all of our foreign language candidates must undergo a full assessment of their speaking and comprehension skills. We get to know our candidates—their capabilities and gifts as well as their career goals and preferences. We learn what they can do and what they want to do.

For each specific job listing, we select only those candidates who have a real potential for success. Those are the ones whose files we make available for school leaders’ review via their online STAR (Southern Teachers Agency Recruiting) accounts. School leaders can’t afford time to wade through stacks of resumes and applications from candidates who simply do not have the credentials or qualities the school seeks. Our referrals are the best in the business. They help leaders focus on finding the best faculty fits for their school families.

Your STAR Account

Your Southern Teachers Agency Recruiting (STAR) account is part of a wonderful digital system that lets you review candidate files at your convenience, communicate with us about new or existing searches, and easily manage other school staff members’ access to information about candidates and job listings.

Every user at the school is assigned a unique login to help control access to sensitive material and to facilitate communication in the school’s evaluation and interview processes. The STAR system adapts well to each school’s hiring practices. With our help, you design the details to fit your needs.

Your ST Agent

We assign a dedicated agent to each school account. A single school may have more than one account if, for instance, different divisions coordinate their own hiring. The first goal of an agent is to determine who at the school serves as our primary contact for the account. Your agent stays in touch with the primary contact to inquire about openings, teach users about the features in your STAR account, answer questions about candidates, and, in general, learn as much about your school and openings so that we may serve you as well as possible.

We've established the "agent model" so that you always know whom to contact.  Of course, at any time you should feel free to contact Carey Goodman, the director of Southern Teachers, as well.

Job Fairs

All attending candidates have been interviewed and screened by our counselors, which means our Job Fairs offer you the most concentrated pool of carefully vetted candidates that you'll find in one place.

In advance of a Fair, your STAR account enables you to view, invite, and schedule interviews with candidates.  The morning of the Fair includes time to meet many more candidates and complete your interview schedule.  The remainder of the day is filled with 20-minute interviews.

Our Fairs are efficient, productive—and humane.  And we’ll feed you well, too!

Want to Get Started?

If you're an administrator at a member school, login to your STAR account to post jobs or review candidates.  Not currently a member school?  Contact Carey Goodman.

Our basic agreement with you is simple: if you list a position and hire a candidate we refer, then the school pays a placement fee—either 11% of the first year's annual remuneration, or 12% if the school provides the candidate with housing. Read the complete Terms of Service here.

It's that simple.  No onerous membership fee.  No annoying charge to list positions.  No exorbitant minimum placement fee. No cost at all unless we send you the best candidate:  the one you hire!
